Cast - Angels and demons
(Private label ALF-007CD)

A bombastic progrock album from Mexico. Just hearing this made me curious enough to listen to the album 'Angels and demons' from Cast. It's already their seventh album and recently there is a live album that is released by an Argentinian Prog Society. But concerning the long life that this band has there must be some kind of quality in it. After listening to this album, that was originally released in 1997, Cast did really made a point for Mexican prog. 'Angels and demons' is a bombastic sounding and Genesis-like cd with great compositions. They use every second to fill up the complete sound. Sometimes it's maybe too complex and sounds a bit distorted, but overall it is a powerfull album. The instrumental 'The initiation' starts with some brilliant keyboardparts thought out by Alfonso Vidales. 'They don't belong to heaven' reminds of the Genesis period with Collins as singer, let's say 'Wind & wuthering'. All songs are quiet good but there is always a masterpiece on the album. 'Revealing signs of love' is the longest track and demonstrates an intro with a monolog from God, Cast just calls it A word from our main sponsor. After that a dialog between archangel Michael and the illuminated but fallen one Lucifer and ending with an instrumental piece. You should actually hear the instrumentals 'Angels and demons' and 'Fallen angel' that are before and after the epic. This is off course the main concept on this album. Cast is musically one of the better but alas not well known progressive rock bands. I hope that this will change when they come to Europe and they will. Playing on the Planet Pull festival in 1998 will bring more prog fans closer to the Mexican prog music that comes straight from the heart.
