Discipline - Unfolded like staircase
(Strung Out Records)

Latest masterpiece from Discipline called 'Unfolded like staircase' contains 4 songs over 5 tracks total. In stead of the previous album, this one is more in vein of old King Crimson with VanderGraaf elements. Beautiful mellotron carpets and sizzling guitar lines dominate the songs that sound like a concept throughout the 65 minutes. 'Canto IV' opens very strong and shows off with the references as written herefore. 'Crutches' has an acoustic entrance, but grows in strength along the song brings us to the climax. The voice of singer Matthew Parmenter somehow compares to Hammill, but not all the times. For some critical listeners this would be a hard to swallow item, though it's no problem for me. I just even like the special vocals. The epic 'Into thedream' lasts more then 20 minutes and is absolutely the best part of the whole album. The extra elements like violin and saxophone fit very well in this remarkable album. Last two tracks contain the whole story of 'Before the storm'. Time for them to show their live performance.
