Landmarq - Science of coincidence
(Synergy SYN002)

After the departure of singer Damian Wilson we all were excited about who follows up. Very surprising to hear that Tracy Hitchings would be the new vocalist in Landmarq. I just placed my questionmarks about how Landmarq actually should sound. Imaging a combination of the old style Landmarq and Strangers on a train I really could not place the results in mind. So it was extra surprising to hear the new product. It's a Landmarq new style production that sounds very different from earlier works and that's not only because of the vocal changing. Producer Mike Stobbie acheived to catch a sound that comes close to a early seventies atmosphere. Off course there is a small Landmarq recognition left on 'Science of coincidence'. Brilliant songs that vary from uptempo songs with mellotron and eastern rhythm pattern to Floyd-like passages in atmospheric songs. Especially the instrumental parts in 'The overlook' and ' Lighthouse' are absolute top quality. The track 'The vision pit' (also the title of the former album) is the longest song with a very fine drive and beginning and ending in a Pink Floyd mood. Only 'Summer madness' didn't qualified itself to stand up between the other stuff. They're back.
