The more Earth  the better the album (rating from 1 to 5).   Roine stolt - Hydrophonia

Roine Stolt - Hydrophonia
(Foxtrot Music FOX CD 019)

We know this man from the Flower Kings and from his solo work on 'The Flower King'. Although you know what to expect, he just surprises you again and again. This is off course he is such a brilliant and diverse guitar player that still isn't running out of tricks and things. His new masterpiece is styled in the theme of water. All the tracks have something to do with water or sea. And even you're a mermaid or not, you'll be taken away on the stream of his magnificent solo's. Opening with the strong catchy Stolt song 'Cosmic lodge' you'll be aware of more attacks to come. Songs that stand tall between all the new material of the latest time. Roine Stolt has a lot of experience yet to do good work and make a good album again. Stolt did all the musical parts exept for the drumming (Jaime Salazar) and saxophone (Ulf Wallander). The following 'Shipbuilding' is an average Flower Kings instrumental. On this album you can find everything from easy stuff to folky fisherman songs and from powerful FK and Tomas Bodin like parts to Zappaesque or Steve Vai structures. The titletrack contains a majestic end. Absolute a nice album for the Flower Kings adorer and for those who just want to break out of the traditional prog rock world.
