Album of the month November 1998
The more the better the album (rating from 1
to 5).
Ars Nova - The book of the dead
(Musea - FGBG4255.AR)
Ars Nova is temporarily reduced to a duo band, but did
release their new album during a world tour this year. The booklet as shown above is from
the Japanese version, but to refer to a more European relation I've mentioned the Musea
partnumber. (The Musea version also contains some extra tracks). Existing from keyboard
player Keiko Kumagai and drummer Akiko Takahashi this Ars Nova still can leave your mouth
wide open. The album is build round a concept dealing with old Egyptian tales from the
ancient book of the Dead 'Reu nu pert em hru'. The songs, I should say instrumentals, are
more complex and sometimes less accessible than their former albums, but they will keep
your attention in almost all of the songs. For the fans of Japanese bombastic music this
album is complexer but more dynamic and melodic as from the collegues from Gerard. A good
album, but I am still afraid that it will not make to a classic one. But looking at the
talent of these girls they deserve it to break through. We'll see, listen first.
