Like Wendy - The storm inside
(LaBraD'or Records LBD 040003)
Let yourself be surprised by some very excellent dutch
prog rock. Just listen to the new album 'The storm inside' from Like Wendy and you'll be
convinced that there is absolutely great talent in Holland that can combine
neo-progressive rock with classical '70's elements. There may be used a lot of sympho
standards but the complete story ends with a very original image of the album. 'The storm
inside' lasts over one hour and contains eight sophisticated songs that are sound very
pretty and are thoughtful composed. From the beginning of 'Blue velvet skies' till 'Shine
on memory' you'll never fall asleep for the compositions are full of exciting parts, like
solo's, rhythm changes and emotional keyboard lines. With the, sometimes Steve
Hogath-alike, voice from singer (and guitarist/keyboardplayer/composer) Bert Heinen the
atmosphere comes close to some well known albums like 'Brave' (Marillion) or 'For king and
country' (Cyan). All and all this is a straight shot in the bull's eye and I think that
this is just the beginning and maybe a start of a new generation Dutch prog productions in
such a fantastic style. Highlights among the brilliant songs are 'Another day', 'Birth',
'The storm inside', 'Shine on memory' and opener ' Blue velvet skies'. The rest is just
cool and reaches far above the average level.
